YOUNG WOMAN’S PLIGHT. CHARGED WITH MURDER. [Per Press Association.] PALMERSTON NORTH, June 4. .The Coroner held an inquest into the death of a newly-born infant found in a pit on Milson’s line on May 25. Detective Sweeney gave evidence as to a statement made to the police by the accused. Lydia Schultz, single, who admitted that the child was hers and that she strangled it in lior bedroom with a piece of string, afterwards wrapping it in paper and a sugar sack. She°put it in the gravel pit. Accused added, “The father did not know anything about what I had done.” The medical evidence showed that the child had lived, and the organs were healthy. Death was due to strangulation. _ ~ . , Tho Coroner returned a verdict ol wilful murder. , , The accused was brought before tho Court and pleaded not guilty.
