THE HON R. H. RHODES. VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH. The Hon R. H. Rhodes, PostmasterGeneial, epent yesterday in Christchurch. In tho afternoon he opened the King George the Fifth Coronation Memorial Hospital on the Cashmere Hills, and in the afternoon he received deputations and attended to Departmental affairs. Messrs W. F. Parkinson and T. Quealey waited on him and asked, in the first place, that a post office should be erected near the railway station at Kaituna. They stated that the settlers had provided a small building Oft a sledge at the creamery, but that it was quite inadequate. They suggested that a piece of ground available should be bought and a small building ereoted on it. They would provide an officer. The Minister said that he would inquire into tho position and would have a sketch of a building sent to tho members of the deputation. They also asked that a goods shed should be erected at the station. Mr Parkinson said that he had a largo quantity of potatoes lying on the station' at present, exposed to the weather. Ho had asked the Department to allow him to have covers which were at the station unused, but his request was refused. The lack of a goods shed caused much loss. An officer should bo at the station when largo numbers of trucks had to be loaded, the platform should be extended up to tbe points for the convenience of passengers, and lighting should be provided at the station during the winter nights Mr Rhodes said that he would bring, these questions under the notice of the Minister of Railways. Messrs Ireland and Anderson, members of tho Springs County Council, waited on the Minister and discussed with him the question of grants tr.i roads in country districts.
