ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A STEWARD DROWNED. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, June 3. A steward named C. Bain, employed on the steamer Monowai, was drowned in the harbour last night. It is presumed that he fell overboard while attempting to jump aboard as the vessel was moving from her berth. Cries for help were heard, and a search was made under the wharf. There was no trace of the man, but later a tweed cap belonging to Bain was found floating in the locality. Bain's body was recovered this morning. At the inquest a verdict was returned of accidental death.
WELLINGTON DROWNING CASE. [Pee Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 3. About two o'clock this afternoon a drowning accident happened in Evans Bay, an elderly man named John Lloyd losing his life. Lloyd, with three other men, was sailing a skiff when it capsized. Three of the men scrambled on to the bottom of the boat, but Lloyd, it was thought,, got entangled in tho rigging, though efforts were made to get him into safety. A boat manned by employees of the patent slip put off to rescue the men and succeeded in bringing them ashore. Efforts were at once made to resuscitate Lloyd, but wero not successful, and when a doctor arrived be could only pronounce life to be extinct. Lloyd was a married man, his, wife residing in Hiropi Street. He was employed at Hudson's Brick Works.
A Territorial named R. T. Crawford, a resident of Belfast, was thrown from his horse soon after the parade in Hagley Park yesterday afternoon, and injured ono of his feet. H was taken to tho Hospital.
