NEW HEBRIDES.
PROTRACTED NEGOTIATIONS. AUSTRALIA'S INFLUENCE. By Telegraph—Pre#s Association—Copyright. PARIS, Juno 1. The newspaper " Homme Libre" states that the New Hebrides negotiations are likely to bo protracted, as Australian Imperialism has thrown its weight into the balance. The newspaper suggests that France should exchange the New Hebrides for Mauritius. THE PRESBYTERIAN MISSION. [Pbr Pkbss Association.! . DUNEDIN, Juno 2. A deputation; consisting of Professor Hewitson (convenor of the Foreign Missions Committee of the Presbyterian Church), Dr Bowie (lately in charge of the hospital at Ambrim) and Mr P. L. Clark (who recently visited the New Hebrides on behalf of the Presbyterian Church) wore this morning introduced to the Prime Minister by Mr G. M. Thomson, M.P. The deputation asked that the Government 6hould endeavour to obtain for the Church some seourity of tenure in the New Hebrides, as it was proposed to proceed with the erection of a hospital at Ambrim to replace the one that was destroyed. The unsatisfactory condition of administration at the present timo rendered it desirablo that the Church should secure a better tenure. Mr Mnssey expressed sympathy with the objects of the deputation and his readiness to do what lay in his power. He pointed out, however, that the matter was really an international one.
