Carter scored a try, con'vertod by Moore, who also kicked a. penalty goal. Harold Murray (All Black), playing for Springfield, was the star player of the match and showed '•that the Californian tour had added to liis'ability without taking away any of his keenness.

v CANTERBURY REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. i The Canterbury Rugby Referees’ Association met last evening, Mr H. E. Hiddlestone presiding over a good attendance. ■* It was proposed to send a letter ol condolence to Mr J. Peake on tho ’death of his mother. The motion was ‘passed in .silence, members standing. An invitation was received from tbo Sydenham Club to attend a church "parade next Sunday. It was decided 'to thank the club for its invitation. • "Messrs T. Bond and E. Watkins were 'elected members of the Association. .With regard to the question of 'charging tno ball on the occasion of nfreo Kick, it was stated that the rule provided that tho opposing side may charge until the ball is placed 'hii the ground and then not till the /referee gives the signal. Mr Alexander asked whether a loose scrummage should bo regarded as a scrum, with reference to. the wing-for-;wnrd rule. The chairman ruled that >Vny scrummage called a scrummage by 'the referee must be regarded as such. ‘ Mr W. G. Garrard asked what constituted the specified half-time.
