CORONATION HALL.
WHARF LABOURERS’ UNION AND * HARBOUR BOARD. BUILDING STILL CLOSED, i So far there is no change in the attitude of the Lyttelton Harbour Board towards the Lyttelton Wharf Labourers’ Union, and the unemployed members yesterday were again compelled to stay in _ the open along the waterfront. Ex-strikers could be observed in front of the closed doors of the Coronation Hall, while the original Arbitrationists had their lunch outside the Customs examination shed. It has been said that one of the reasons for the closing of the hall was the existence of strained, relations between the ex-strikers and the new ,hands. As there are many people prepared to support this statement, it was interesting to note yesterday that the old hands accepted a challenge to a game of football on Officer’s Point recreation ground. Work on the waterfront was slack, and there was a large number of spectators, and the form shown bv some of the aspirants evoked no little laughter. The game resulted in the members of the Union winning by 17 points. . Mr R-' M. Stewart, secretary of the Union, has forwarded a letter to the Harbour Board asking for more definite information in regard to the Board’s action in closing the hall, but 60 far no reply has been received.
