PROSPECT OF NO CONTEST.
Although the date for the closing of the rolls for the Mayoral election is approaching there is as yet information of only one candidate for the office, the present Mayor, Mr H. Holland. There is a general impression that there will be no contest this year, and it has been stated that the Social Democratic Party will not run a candidate. Dr Thacker has as yet made no reply to the request made to him to stand for office.
The rolls will close on April 15, fourteen days before the polling day on April 29, and the nominations will close on April 21. So far there has been practically no interest shown in the enrolment of electors.
