THE SAVILE CUP. SECOND DAY'S PLAY. . Leaden skies and a heavy, sodden ground made the second day's play in the tournament for tho Saviio Cup open inauspiciously yesterday morning. Following are the results of tho day's games:— Tipapji~-.il. Acton-Adams, 11. P. Gluey, C. F. I). Fox and C. R. Campbell.

Hawkc's Bay C--L. M'Lean A. \V Shield, F. Price and G. M. Pliarazyn

Play was somewhat slack at the beginning, and then Pliarazyn dribbled the ball down tho field and Price had no diffioult-v in scoring. Hawke's Bay 1, Tipapa 'O. Tho sodden ground made play uneventful in the second spell. The bell rang, and still the players continued. It was as well for Hawke's Bay, for just after Pharazyn scored an easy goal. Hawkc's Bay 'J, Tipapa 0. Olnoy had bad luck early in the third spoil, and a magnificent shot went, wide by inches, hitting the post. From a rather 'fumbling mclco in front of tho posts, Hawke's Bay made a. vigorous attempt, and Campbell, in trying to save a score, put tho ball through for liia opponents. Hawke's Bay 3, Tinapa. 0. Campbell, who had not been distinguishing himself particularly, had a clever interval in the fourth spell, and missed a goal by sheer bad luck, and Hawkc's Bav soon turned tho tables and had the Tipapa men defending again. Pliarazyn headed a nice rush, and tho Tipapa defence was ineffective, a goal resulting. Hawke's Bay 4, Tipapa 0. Price added another goal to the Hawke's Hay total before tho fifth spell had proceeded far. Hawkc's Bay 5, Tipana 0. This was shortly afterwards succeeded by a good goal by Pliarazyn. Hawke's Bay 6, Tipapa 0. Just before the spell ended another score was added bv Shield. Hawkc's Bav 7. Tipapa 0.

Acton-Adams, however, in the middle of the sixth spell, scored nicely and registered the first goal for Tipapa. Hawkc's Bay 7, Tipapa 1. Hawke's Bay, however, soon regained its former lead through the efforts of Pliarazyn. Hawke's Bay 8, Tipapa 1. Before the spell ended 'Pliarazyn added another two goals. Hawke's Bay 10, Tipapa 1. Hawke's Bay's total was further augmented in the." last spell by goals scored bv Price and Shield, and tho game ended :—-Hawko's Bay 12, Tipapa 1. CHRISTCHURCH v. RANGIORA A.

Christchurch—T. Rhodes, C. Toscheinaker, H. Little and Captain Onslow. Rangiora A—J. D. M'Cracken, O. M. Hope, H. Ensor and A. Fear. Tho first spell was uneventful. In the second spell Christchurch missed several good chances by narrow margins, Onslow being conspicuous in rushes.

Christchurch began to shake things up in tho next spell r.nd to play . a fast combined game. Rhodes followed up well, and, taking a long pass from Onslow, scored from a nice position. Christchurch 1, Rangiora 0.

Just before the end of the fourth spell Rhodes bad another good attempt, which, however, did not succeed. Little had an unsuccessful attempt, but the ball just went a few inches wide of the posts. The fifth .spell proceeded for some timeT without incident. Then Onslow sent a long shot from about quarter-way which just crept between the posts. Christchurch '2, Rangiora 0. Rhodes picked the ball up neatly right afterwards and snicked a nice goal with a smart back-hand stroke. Christchurch 3. .Rangiora 0. For a long time then the game was very uninteresting, consisting largely of aimless scurrying to and fro on tho field. Onslow*s play was tho only bright part of the game, and at the end of the sixth spell he secured another goal. Christchurch 4, Rangiora 0. Rangiora woke up.in tho last spell, however, and for a time kept Christchurch busy. Taking a pass from M'Cracken in a good position. Hope opened their score. Christchurch -i, Rangiora 1. The difference was soon made up. however, Onslow scoring from an opening made for him by Rhodes, and tho game ended with the scotcs: — Christchurch 5, Hawko's Bay 1. HAWKE'S BAY B v. HAWARDEN. Hawke's Bay B.—W. G. Stead, O. Nelson, .7. Lyons and E..Nairn. Hawanlen—F. Davison, E. Davison, G. L. Rutherford and C. 0. T. Rutherford.

Hawke's Bay was pressing again : mmediatcly after, but tho Davison brothers effected a diversion and E. Davison scored with a beautiful long shot. Hawke's Bay 2. Hawarden 1. Stead galloped between tho posts shortly afterwards, taking tho ball with liim. Hawke's Bay S, Hawarden 1. The second spell was uneventful. An exciting rush along the Hue in which Hawke's Bay showed good combination occurred early in the third spell, but Lyons lost tho ball near the posts. Hawarden territory was vigorously besieged for a time, goals being narrowly missed on several occasions. Wild play succeeded, and the spell ended with no further scores. Piny was fast and willing in tho fourth spell, and fairly even, both sides taking it id turn to attack and defend. Tho Davison brothers were prominent amongst the players, E. Davison being continually on tho ball. Nairn led a good rush early in the fifth spell, but nothing resulted, and then play settled down again to a somewhat level character. No further score was made till tho sixth spell, when Xelson registered a good goal with the aid of good support from the other players on .his side. Hawke's Bay -I, Hawarden 1.
