THROWN FROM A HORSE

THE LITTLE RIVER FATALITY. An inquosfc was opened at midday yesterday, • before Mr H. W. Bishop,, S.M., District Coroner, concerning the death of James Londrigan, who died at the Hospital as a result of injuries oaused by being thrown off his 'horse at Little River on Monday morning. Deceased was riding from the Little River store to his property -when his horse shied, and,, rearing, threw him on his head. Senior Sergeant Mathioson conducted the inquest for the police. Francis Scott, medical superintendent at the Christ-church Hospital, said that the deceased was admitted at 'J.JiO p.m. on Monday, and was quite unconscious. There was evidence of a fracturo of the skull. Docasrd did not recover consciousness, and died at 9.10 p.m. The cause of death was intercranial .hemorrhage, due to a fracture, of the skull. Deceased's nephew- had told witness that deceased had. been thrown from his horse. The inquest was then adjourned to 7.30, to enable' the other witnesses to arrive from Little River. Mr Hunt appeared on behalf of deceased's relatives when the inquest wasi resumed. John Londrigan, of Little River, stated that deceased was his brother, and was a former at Little River. He saw the deceased on the previous morning lying on the. road at Weston Valley, Little River, having evidently fallen from his horse. His'brother did not sneak when picked up. The affair was purely accidental. Edmund James Joblin .said that he saw the deceased give a tug on the rein of his horse, and saw both the rider and horse fall. Ho was about a chain away at the time. When lie reached Londrigan he found be was unconscious. Witness went for a doctor, and'deceased was taken to the Hospital. Londrigan was accustomed to horse-riding, and usually rode slowly.

A verdict of accidental death was returned.
