THE GIFT AEROPLANE.
DESTINATION OF THE BRITANNIA
ACTION BY BOROUGH COUNCILS. At last night's meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council, Councillor A. W. Owles referred to tho discussion relative to the proposal for housing tho dominion aeroplane in Canterbury, and said he considered that there was no more suitable ground in the dominion for the erection of an aerodrome. There were miles of splendid beach and open country near New Brighton. He moved : —" That the Council write to the member for tho district (Mr G. W. Russell), asking him to do his best to have the headquarters of the aeroplano Britannia established at New Brighton." The motion was carried unanimously.
At tho Woolston Borough Council's meeting last evening, the Alayor (Mr J. J. Graham) made reference to the discussion taking place concerning tho headquarters of New Zealand's aeroplane, the Britannia. Air Graham said that tho greater number of the fatalities that had occurred to aviators woro occasioned by the gusts of wind experienced in hilly country, consequently ho thought that Canterbury was aai ideal place for the establishment of a school of aviation in association with the presence of the airship. He moved that the Prime Alinister -should be written to, urging the Government to place the Britannia in Canterbury. The motion was carried unanimously.
