H.M.S. NEW ZEALAND.

SECTION OF THE CREW TO BE ENTERTAINED AT KAIAPOI.

At the meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council held last evening'a request from the Christchurch Reception Committee in connection with the visit of H.M.S. New Zealand was considered. The committee invited the Kaiapoi Council to cooperate with the various local bodies in North Canterbury in the matter of holding a sports meetine at Rangiora for the entertainment of a section of the crew-. Several councillors objected to tne fact that the claims of Kaiapoi, as tho centre of the district, had been io-norcd. The opinion was expressed that it would be difficult to raiste funds at Kaiapoi for a function, to be held in another town. Other councillors urged that tne function was intended to be Canterbury one, and ■ that Kaiapoi should put aside all parochial feelings and give all possible assistance to the other local bodies. After a lengthy and somewhat neatod discussion it was decided that a section of the worship's crew should be ontertained at Kaiapoj.
