THE DEFENCE FORCES.

TEMPLETON CAMP. A second Territorial camp was pitched at Templeton on Thursday last, and for tho first three days the weather was ideal. Sunday was visiting day and despite'the bad weather quite a number of the friends of tho men under canvas found their way to the domain. A few experienced some difficulty in locating the camp. It is really situated half vay between Templeton and Islington "and not in tho forme:- township. Some two hundred and thirty men a.re in training and the local residents are very interested, in the work of the camp. ASHBURTON CAMP. The work in the Territorial casual camp at Ashburton has so far been confined to elementary drill without arms. Yesterday the rifles were issued; and the men will now bo put through company drill in musketry. If the weather continues fine it is the intention of the officers ,to take both the mounted men and the infantry and form an advance guard along tho road. Captain Andrews explained that this would be getting in advance of things, for the men had had hardly sufficient training for this class of work, hut it would be interesting, and the men would enjoy it.
