ATHLETIC.

NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. [Pek I'rtcrs Asbociation.] WELLINGTON, May 6. Tlio Council of tlio Now Zealand Athletic Association met to-night. A letter from tho Now Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union stated that one of its executive, who happened to be in Westport, wrote: "The notion of the Westport Football Cltib in holding sports (avowedly amateur), practically two meetings at Cape Fculwind and Granifcy Crook, is a crying shame. Tt would ho a good idea to inquire into the bona fides of alleged amateur sports meetings hold at Westport on Saturday and Monday, of Easier time. I know certain rash men competed, and surely this fact alone would show the Amateur Athletic Association that they were just being used to raise money for peoplo who care nothing at all about sport." Tho Union stated that this came from a reliable source. Tt was decided to ask the Canterbury Centre whether any permit was issued for the meeting, the local Centra knowing nothing about it. With'regard to a record claimed to have boon put up by J. M'Holm in throwing the 161 b hammer at Christchurch on February 24. tho chairman reported he had ascertained that there was only one competitor in the event, and he ruled that it could not be held as n, record. It was explained that had there been only one other entrant the application would hove bean in order. It was resolved to uphold tho ruling of the chairman in the matter. An application by A. N. Clark, for reinstatement was referred to the New South Wales Amateur Athletic Association. Two others for the reinstatement of A. M. St George and R. Spraguo were referred to the Auckland Association for information as to whether either of these athletes had received payment for playing football under Northern Union rules.
