CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, May 6. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) Drukkexners.—Three first offenders, one a. woman, wer-a each lined ss, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment, and another was convicted and discharged. A Missing Motor - Cycle. Frank Ruck (Mr Cassidy) was charged with the theft of a motor-oyclo valued at £ls, the property of Stewart Meares. The accused pleaded guilty. Mr Cassidy stated that accused was a young man of most respectable parentage and with a hitherto unblemished record. The machine was an old one, and had been lying in the A.M.P. Buildings for some time neglected and broken down. • Tho accused had taken it and done it up, spending £l7 on it. The Magistrate lectured the accused severely, pointing out tho serious position in which ho had placed himself, but stated that in consideration of his position he would treat him as leniently as possible. He, would be fined 20s and costs and ordered to return the bicycle to its owner. False Pretences.—Alexander James Stewart, alias Waldon, alias Harmsworth, was charged with having obtained from Strange and Co. a portmanteau and other goods, to a total value of £l2 18s, by means of a valueless cheque, and with having obtained from tho Craddock Hardware Company £1 by means of a similar false pretence. The Chief Detective stated that the accused was a confirmed criminal. Accused was sentenced to six months' imprisonment on- the first and three montjis' imprisonment on the second charge. Beaven. £6 14s lOd; L. W. Balkind (Mr Goodman) v. J. Rains, 18s; same v. R. Webb, £2 7s lid; J. Bridgman v. J. Alstrop, £2; Craddock Hardware Company. Limited, v. D. P. Palmer, £ll 17s ll'd. Judgment Deetods.—John Watson (Mr Graham) claimed from Thomas Porterfield £57 3s. After debtor had been examined tho Magistrate refused to make an order.—Andrew Terris (Air Cuningham) claimed £3 Is 6d from F. T. Shearsby. Debtor was examined and no order was made.
