A St Petersburg message says that the Minister of Commerce, speaking in the Duma, said that the Government would make the fullest inquiry into the recent affray at the Lena Gold Company's works, and would introduce a Bill regulating the conditions of labour. GREEN ISLAND MINERS. NO/ CHANGE IN THE POSITION. [Per Press Association.] " -. DUNEDIN, May 3. ' A meeting of representatives of tho miners in the Green Island district was held tonight to consider the position in regard so the dispute at Christie's mine. A resolution was unanimously passed pledging the meeting to stand solidly by the men on strike and to take every step necessary to get relief for the men concerned. -
Mr Ridd, secretary of the Otago Coal Miners' Union, states that if the dispute does not very quickly come to a head the New Zealand Federation of Labour ,viil take charge and all the men ir. Green Island district will stand by its advice. If the Federation says " down tools " there will not be a pick raised. <
The employers are standing by their determination not to go back on their position.
