CHEVIOT LEASES.
RESULT OF BALLOT FOR SECTIONS. TIIO ballot for sections in a portion of tho Cheviot Estate, the leases of which were being offered by the Lands Department, took place yesterday at the Christchurch Lands Office, before an interested gathering, including Mr George Forbes, member for Hurunui, who is one of the original Cheviot settlers, and is still on the estate. A dozen sections were disposed of, each being about 56, acres. There were seventy applications, of which fourteen were rejected. Most of the applicants were Cheviot residents, and the result of the ballot was received with general satisfaction. The successful applicants were as follow: — CHEVIOT SURVEY DISTRICT.
Section 33—60 acres, D. Booth (36 in ballot). Section 34—54 acres, Frederick Scarr (33 in ballot). LOWRY PEAKS DISTRICT. Section 19—59 acres, George Harrison (5 in ballot). Section 29—62 acres, Thomas Parker (13 in ballot). Section 30—46 acres, Ellen Winterbourne (14 in ballot). Section 31—56 acres, Florence Renakli (19 in ballot). * • Section 32—62 acres, S. Hannah (29 in ballot). Section 33—50 acres, Frederick Hansen (10 in ballot). Section 34—32 acres, Albert C. Barno3 (10 in ballot). Section 30—67 acres, S. Costello (10 in ballot).
Section 31 —57 acres, Samuel Haughey, jun. (10 in ballot). Section 32—25 acres, Elizabeth Ashworth (b m ballot).
