Captains Salter, Bundle, Chapman, Finnis and Andrews left for Wellington last night. Mr H. L. Michel, of Hokitika, was m Christchurch yesterday. He left for Auckland in the evening. The Hews C. H. Laws, P. W r . Fairclougli and A. Ashcroft were passengers by the Mararoa for AVellington last night. Colonel Cresswell, Major Bishop and Lieutenants Cook and Donne were passengers by the Mararoa for Wellington last nigl'.t. Mis 3 Myrtle Garland, M.A., has been appointed to the staff of tho Nelson Girls’ College, and will take up her duties next week. Major-General God lev. Commandant of the New Zealand Forces, left for Wellington last evening. Captain Spencer Smith was also a passenger for Wellington by the Mararoa, To-morrow evening, at 5.15 o clock, the institution of the archdeacon of Tim aril and Westland and the installation of Canon Sedgwick will take place in the Christchurch Cathedral. The friends of Mr George Bono entertained him at Little River on Friday evening, on the eve of his departure for Dunedin. Cabled advice has been received in Auckland that the delegates appointed to select a Bishop of Melanesia, in succession to Bishop AYilson. liave nominated tho Rev Cecil John Wood, of Clergyhouse, AVimbledon. Mr Wood is only thirty-eight years old, but is noted for scholastic attainments. Ho was a scholar and exhibitioner of St Peter’s; Cambridge. He left the position of curate of St Andrew’s Church, Bethnal Greo.n, to become curate at Clergyhouse. Wimbledon, which _ position ho now hoicks, being the senior of eight curates. Tho Primate lias been informed of the selection, and will shortly fix the date of consecration, which will take place in Auckland.
