Throughout the afternoon and night tho rain was incessant,, and during the afternoon’s storm 150 points fell, accompanied by a cyclonic wind and severe lightning. Many boats were capsized in the harbour, but there were no fatalities. The lightning struck St Matthias’s Church, Paddington, and fired the roof, but the brigade extinguished it. Tho tower of St Francis’s Convent was struck, but the damage was slight. The tramlines were flooded, and traffic was suspended for a time. Several of the’ cars were struck by lightning.
