MUNICIPAL FRANCHISE.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —Mr limiter deserves tho gratitude of tho shop assistants of Christchurch for his able advocacy of their right to a half-holiday on the day of the poll lor election of Mayor and councillors. His statements about the crowded state of the polling booths at the last municipal election aro absolutely correct. You cannot expect young women to loiter about and submit to jostling at a crowded polling bootli alter their day’s work is over at six o'clock. If it is right for them to have a veto it is also right for them to have the necessary time allowed to exercise their votes, and if the present City Council is not dead to all sonso of justice then it will take stops to provide Humorous polling booths and declare a half-holiday. It is a pity wo liavo not more men of Sir Hunter’s stamp displaying similar energy and persistent effort to bring reforms into existence which are going to benefit the whole community. I know his efforts are appreciated by all siiop assistants and especially bv women workers, and wo hope the Sydenham people will place him where ho deserves to he, at the top of the poll on Anril 2(3.—1 am, etc., ONLY A WOMAN.
