FIRES.

About five o’clock on Saturday morning a dwelling-house owned by Mr C. W. Williams, situated on Retreat Road, Avonside, was totally destroyed bv fire. As it was outside tho city boundary, the Fire Brigade was not requisitioned. The house had been untenanted for some time, and when tho. fire took place Mr Williams was in the North Island and his wife was living at Now Brighton. The origin of the fire is unknown. The building and contents were insured in the Alliance Assurance Company for C7OO.
