During a Germiston miner’s absence, his wife awoke to find a black servant beside her, armed with a huge chopper. She seized a gun and shot him dead. A similar incident is reported from Krugersdorp. There, however, the husband rushed to his wife’s assistance, and, after a desperate struggle, with the assistance of some lodgers, overpowered the native.
