CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, March 4. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop. S.M.) Drunkenness. —Mary Agues Vaughan, an old offender, was fined 20s, with the alternative of seven days’ imprisonment, for drunkenness.—Ellen Parkinson, another offender for drunkenness, was also convicted of being an idle and disorderly person, and was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour.—A nrst offender who had been drunk in a railway car was fined 10s, in default fortyeight hours’ imprisonment. Obscene Language. —Alexander Currie, who used bad language on the railway station, was fined £5, or a month’s imprisonment. Dismissed. —David Armstrong Ogilvie was charged with having on February 23 stolen a fire extinguisher valued at 15s, the property of Algy Latham. It was stated that accused was a canvasser employed to sell extinguishers for Latham at 12s 6d each, though their actual cost to Latham was 2s. Accused had been told to sell the extinguisher, a sample one, and when ho had done so Latham demanded the money, and threatened to ta.ke out a warrant. Mr Alpers, who appeared for aecused. explained the matter, and said that Latham was excitable. The, Magistrate dismissed the case.
