ROAD BOARDS.

SPRINGS. A monthly mooting of the Springs Road Board was held on Tuesday; present—Messrs Wolfe (chairman), Murray, Loch head and Andrew. A report was received that a new concrete culvert had been put in on the half-chain road and that a broken culvert on Chamberlain’s Road was being repaired. Two tenders wero accepted for cleaning about four or five miles of the district drain out of sixteen miles advertised. It was reported that the weed-cutter had not been working for the last fortnight, owing to an accident. The Board’s attention was drawn to the way in which traction engines travelled in the came ruts, especially on the by-roads, and it was stated that if the practice were persisted in the Board would have to protect itself with by-laws. Accounts for £lll 10s od were passed for payment.

OXFORD. The Oxford Road Board met on Wednesday; present—Mr D. Hawke (chairman), Messrs C. F. Bassett, A. Baxter, Ti. Campbell and 11. Smith. It was resolved to erect a bolster at the foot of Inch’s cutting; to renew the appointment of the ranger and grant him a. bonus of £5; to request the constablo to prevent drivers of vehicles'' from obstructing tho main streot on sale days by keeping to one line on the side of the road ; to place stiles over fences on the track at View Hill, and to shingle water-race fords and place broken metal on Mounsey’s Ford. Permission to plough sides of roads was granted to Messrs Thompson, Campbell and J. Skurr. The Minister of Public Works wrote that tho vote for tho Ashley Gorge Road was before the Cabinet for approval. The following tenders were, accepted : —Contract 131, Mr C. Johnson, £7 10s; Contract 133, MV Johnson, 3s 2d per yard; Contract 134, Mr C. Johnson, Is Od per yard; and_ Contract 135, >Mr C. Johnson, Is 7d per yard. There were no tenders for Con-

tract 132, and it was resolved to make tlie place safe for the present, if practicable, if not to do the work by day labour. Thirteen tenders for the Ashley Gorge Road were not opened, as authority for expenditure of the vote had not arrived and the tenders will be held over until Thursday. Accounts for CIS!) 4s Sd were passed for payment.
