Arnst, speaking at a welcome home to Pearce, said that if Pearce’s supporters found the stake and challenged him he would put no obstacle in the way of a race on the Parramatta. If Pearce proved the better man lie would gladly hand over the title. Hri own ambition was to score one more victory than Beach. A statement was made in the room that Pearce was already able to command £3OO of the £SOO stake. His backers were keen, and an early race was probable.
