SWIMMING.
LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY
A meeting of the .committee appointed to make arrangements for Air W. Henry's visit to Christchurch in connection with the Life-saving Centre and the formation of a Now Zealand Head Centre was held on Saturday evening, Sir K. Bassott presiding, it was decided to ask the Mayor of Christchurch to give Mr Henry a civic reception at the City Council Chambers on the day "of his arrival. It was agreed to arrange for a public reunion and public demonstrations and a public meeting at the Tepid Bath. It was decided that, if possible, Mr Henry should visit tho public schools to present certificates and diplomas for life-saving work. It was stated that there would be about 100 candidates for examination, including a number of boys and girls from the primary and secondary schools. This evening a public meeting will be held in tho Town Hall at Sumner for the purpose of forming a branch of the Societv.
Tho East Christchurch Swimming Club held its first race of tho season on Friday evening, when a 52yds handicap was swum. There was an entry of twenty-eight, and the race provided some capital finishes in the various heats. The final result- was:— V. Collins 1, A. Howarth 2. Time—47see.
