Mrs George Payling left last evening for Auckland. Mr Justice Sim will return to Christchurch from Wellington this morning. Mr G. Laurenson, M.P., is refraining from addressing public meetings just now, and his health has consequently improved. Large numbers of visitors called upon Mr and Mrs S. C. Farr, at their residence in Bealey Avenue yesterday, and congratulated them on the celebration of their diamond wedding. At a special meeting of the Tinwald School Committee on Tuesday evening, Mr H. Nelhani Watson, second assistant master at the Richmond School, was selected for the position of master. Mr John Fuller arrived in Christchurch yesterday to make arrangements for extensive alterations in the Opera House and ColosEeum. Mr Fuller will be in Christchurch for some timo. At the meeting of the Weedona School Committee on Monday evening th© resignation of the chairman, Mr Bonney, who is leaving tho district, was received with regret. Mr M. Law was elected chairman in his place. Among the arrivals in Christchurch yesterday were Messrs W. Ivinnerney (Timaru), J. W. Johnston (Palmerston North), G. H. Andrew (Soutbbridge), W. O. Ilonnie (Doyleston), J. D. Campbell (Dunedin) and J. Ewing (Dunedin). At tho annual smoke concert of tho Opawa Bowling Club on Tuesday, tho retiring honorary secretary, Mr 0. E. Jones, who is leaving the district, was presented with a silver cream jug and sugar bowl, in recognition of his valuable services to the club since its inception. Tlie matron of the Christchurch. Hospital, Miss M. Thurston, who has been absent on leave, attended yesterday’s meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and was introduced to the members. Miss Thurston stated that she expected to be able to resume duty on July 1. One more of the pioneers of the Springston district has passed away. The funeral of Mrs Eliza Kime, who has been a resident for about forty years, was conducted on Tuesday afternoon by the Rev J. T. Pinfold. Services wore held both in the Wesleyan Methodist Church and at the oemetery. A large number were present to show their respect for the deceased. Mrs Kime was seventy-four years of age. Referenoe was made at yesterday's meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Beard to the death of Nurse Nesbit, who had died from typhoid fever, contracted while performing her duties. The chairman of the Hospital Committee, Mr W. W. Tanner, referred to the courage and devotion of Nurse Nesbit. and on his motion the Board resolved to place on record its high appreciation of her services. its regret at her untimely death, and its sympathy with her relatives.
