The Oberammergau River rose rapidly and flooded tho roads and railway, isolating the town and threatening the Passion Play theatre. A bridge over tho Ahr at Schulda, crowded with peoplo watching tho flooded river, collapsed. It is reported that there were ono hundred and fifty deaths. Forty-nine bodies have already been washed ashore. The valley of the Meuse is devastated. Smaller rivers rose fifteen fee-t in an hour. Many bridges were destroyed, and towns and the countrysido flooded, drowning cattle and sheep.
