UNION STEAM SHIP COMPANY'S FLEET. The Mararoa will be the ferry steamer to-day. The Kurow, from Newcastle, should arrive to-day to discharge. To-morrow the Moeraki will be here from Melbourne, via ports, and will leave in the evening for Sydney, via Wellington. About six weeks ago it was announced that the Waitemata was to load wool for the Home market, but at the time the report was not confirmed by the Union Steam Ship Company, and its accuracy was doubted. Events have proved, however, that the first report was quite correct, and the Shaw, Savin and Albion Company has now officially announced that it has chartered the Waitemata to go on tho loading berth in December. The Kaipara left London on October 4 •with cargo for Dunedin, Timaru and Lyttel--1 ton. She is expected at Dunedin on November 18. The Auchendale, now on her way to New Zealand from New York with case oil for the Vacuum Oil will make Auckland her first port of call. She is a steel cargo steamer of 3723 tons gross, and was built in' 1906 by Russell and Co., Glasgow, for Purdie, Glen and Miller. The next vessel to take the loading berth for the Vacuum Oil Company will be the Andromeda, a fourmasted barque. , According to the latest “ Gazette,” the colour of the rear gTeen light on the middle bank in Bluff Harbour will bo changed to •white after November 1, in order that the positions of the lights may be better defined to shipmasters entering the harbour. The Lodorer, which put into Wellington •on Saturday with only fifteen tons of coal in .her bunkers, after being forty-three days out jfyom Buenos Ayres and Newcastle, took 200 'tohs of bunker coal at Wellington yesterday And resumed her voyage. The Tainui has had an over-generous share •of bad luck on her present trip. In addition 1o her damaged propeller, the steamer sustained an unexnected injury from the hulk Arawata in Wellington on Friday. She experienced a succession of gales for three months, during which her decks were constantly flooded, and the crew suffered severo privations. During a hurricane a big wave swept the whole of tho starboard watch—six men and two boys and the second mate —over the side. One seaman, named O'Reilly, was drowned,-but the others managed to regain the deck. The first mate, Mr Sprangc, died during the voyage.
