Mr Harold Byrue, well known in sporting circles, died in a private Hospital yesterday, after an operation for appendicitis. Mr Byrne was.at one time a prominent footballer,. and represented the Canterbury province in interprovincial matches in 1904. : Archdeacon and Mrs York (Greymouth) arrived in Christchurch yesterday, , Mr T. Parata. M.P., left for Wellington by the Pateena last night. Mr and Mrs E. Studholme left for Wellington last night. Mr and Mrs G. L. Rutherford (Waikari), Mr F. M. Short, Mr H. ActonAdams (Tipapa), Mr F. Rutherford (Mendip Hills) and Mr and. Mrs Phillips (Dunedin) arrived in Christchurch yesterday. •■•” ’ Mr J. C. Bkckmore, Government Pcmologist, who has been paying an official visit of inspection to the fruitgrowing districts of Southland, returned to Christchurch from Invercargill by the second express last evening. He will leave for Wellington to-night. Mr Nelson Illingworth left for Wellington last evening. The Rev J. Pringle, of Akaroa, who has accepted a call to the Halkett Presbyterian Church, was entertained at a. farewell garden party at " Glencarrig,” Akaroa, the residence of Mr J. D. Bruce. There was a large; attendance of the Akaroa congregation and people from the neighbouring bays. Mr Bruce, on behalf of the congregation, presented Mr Pringle with a purse of sovereigns and Mrs Pringle with a travelling rug. Mr Bruce expressed tie general regret for the minister’s departure. Mr Dodds, for the church managers, and Mr W. Morgan, for the elders, also spoke, and Mr G. Armstrong referred to the cordial assistance rendered by Mr Pringle to the Nolicense League. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the congregation.
