The tennis tournament was continued in fino weather. There was a large attendance, including tho Governor-General. Play throughout was of a high standard. The matches between tho ladies of New Zealand and Now South Wales were keenly contested, and provided exceLlont contests. The visitors proved too good for their opponents, and, although two games are yet unfinished, tho New Zealanders have practically won the intor-Stato matches. Results: DOUBLES—Misses Powdrell and Nunnoley beat Misses Doyle and Gardiner, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4; Mrs Colquhoun and Miss Baker beat Misses Ward and Wellwood, 5-7, 6-2, 16-14; Misses Powdrell and Nunneley beat Misses Lbo and Jones, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4; Misses Gray and Travers beat Mrs Colquhoun and Miss Baker, 6-4, 6-0; Misses Lee and Jones beat Misses Ward and Wellwood, 4-6, 6-2, 4-8; Mrs Colquhoun end Miss Doyle v.-Misses Gray and Travers, 6-1, 4-6, unfinished. SINGLES—Mies Gray beat Miss Doyle, 6- 6-3; Miss Travers beat Miss Gardiner, 7- 7-5; Mrs Colquhoun beat Miss Powdrell, 4-6, 4-6: Miss Baker v. Miss Nunneley, 6-4, 2-6, unfinished. INTER - STATE GENTLEMEN’S MATCHES—Singles—Victoria scored 117 games and New South Wale 3 110. Doubles —New South Wales beat Victoria by eleven rubbers to ten. The matches unfinished will bo played today. In the Doubles New Zealand has won 5 rubbers, 12 sets 113 games, New 'South Wales 2 rubbers 8 sets 101 games. In the Singles New Zealand has won 6 rubbers 14 sets, 118 games, New South Wales 3 rubbers 8 sets 96 games. The contests between Nejw South Wales and Victoria wore of the keenest character. Brookes’s play was especially brilliant. New South Wales eventually annexed the interstate championship by 11 rubbers to 10, defeating Victoria in the Doubles matches by 101 to 69 games. The grand totals in the Singles and Doubles were:—New South Wales 11 rubbers 26 Bets 211 games, Victoria 10 rubbers. 31 sets 206 games. THE DAVIS CUP. SYDNEY, April 25. At a complimentary dinner to the Victorian lawn tennis team, Mr Baxter, representing the New Zealand Association, referring to the difficulty between Australia and New Zealand, over the Davis Cup, expressed a hope that matters would be satisfactorily adjusted. He maintained that it was only a question of give and tako on each side. Mr Brookes said he trusted a speedy reconciliation would be effected, and when tho Davis Cup was fought out, as ho believed it was to be, in Sydney, New' Zealand and Australia would again be fighting side by side.
