FIRES.
[Pee Press Association.] HASTINGS, April 24.. At midnight a fire was discovered in Messrs Phillips and Wright'o furniture factory. In thirty minutes the place was in ruins. The fire spread to Mr Hallman's. (blacksmith) cottage, and the inmates were rescued by the police. The insurances on the factory are not available., but cover less than half the loss, which is considerable. On Mr Hallman's cottage there was £l5O in the Phoenix Office and £76 on the furniture in the Standard Office. The total insurances on Phillips and Wright’s building, stock and machinery were £IOOO in the North Queensland Office. The loss is estimated at £2OOO. DUNEDIN, April 25. A five-roomed house in Melbourne Road, South Dunedin, was practically destroyed by fire early yesterday morning. The house was owned by Mrs Garden, and occupied by Mrs Wyatt. The building was insured for £l5O in the' Royal Office, and the furniture for £2OO in the New Zealand Office.
