CHRISTCHURCH SPORTS CLUB. A meeting of the committee was held on Thursday. The secretary reported that twentythree nominations had been received for the three novice events it was proposed to hold in connection with the May 12 and 13 competition. Classing the competitors according to the weights sent in with the nominations, there were seven under Bsb 41b, four under 9st. seven under lOst, four under list 41b, and one heavy-weight. It was decided to strike out the heavyweight and to increase the classes from the original number to four. After some discussion _it was decided to hold a “ try-out ” in the bantam and light classes, at Mr F. A. Hornibrook’s Physical Culture Rooms, on Saturday, May 8, at 7.30 p.m., in the presence of members only. Those left in‘will compete on May 12 and 13. For the “try-out,” Mr W. G. Atack was appointed referee, Messrs C. T. Aschman and W. J. Moir judges, and Messrs A. Dickson and F. A. Hornibrook time-keepers. ■ The secretary reported that five matches had been arranged for the competition, and it was decided to hold two on the first night and three on the second. Correspondence was read from E. J. Picton, of Christchurch, and J. Maloney, of Dunedin, respecting a match The applicants agreed to box for £3O, and it was decided to dpply to the New Zealand Boxing Council for permission to advertise the event as for the professional heavy-weight championship of New Zealand. The contest will take place on June 30. It was decided to hold the local championships in August, and to endeavour to arrange a match for September between J. Smith and J. Lloyd for the professional middle-weight championship cf New Zealand.
