CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday. Aphid 24. (Before Mr H.- W. Bishop, S.M.) Drunkenness. —Five first offenders for drunkenness were each fined os and costs, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment, arid Peter Brown, a statutory second offender, was fined 10s and costs, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. Alleged Theft. —Mary Blue appeared to answer a charge of having stolen from the person of William Holdsworth a watch, chain, medal and a coin-case. She elected to be tried by a. jury, and she was remanded until Friday. On a vagrancy charge she was remanded until the same day. Drink and Complications. —Johanna Cosgrove, alias Sullivan, alias Brown, appeared on remand in answer to a charge of having been drunk and having refused to quit licensed premises. She was fined 10r> and costs, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment for drunkenness, and 20s and costs, in default one month’s imprisonment ontho other charge.

Theft While. Dktjnk.—James Robertson admitted having stolen boots valued at 11s 6rl from Richard Fannell. Ho said that bo was drunk at the time. Sub-Inspector M'Grath said that a short time ago the accused had .been' convicted of a- similar offence. The accused never stole unless ho was drunk. Mr Bishop said that the accused under those circumstances should not get drunk, and sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment. Discharged. —Henry Frederick Neville was charged with having trespassed on the property of his wife, from whom he was separated by an order of the Court. The Magistrate, after hearing the evidence., said that the order had boon cancelled by reason of tho cohabitation of the Wo since its making. TJie accused was discharged.
