BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SUMNER. The Sumner Borough Council met last evening; present—The Mayor (Mr G. Mitchell), and Councillors the Hon J. Barr. E. Denham, G. E. Wood, C. S. Gill, J Maffey, G. Brewer and S. H. Andrews. The resignation of Councillor Stackhouse was received and accepted with regret. Councillor Stackhouse desires to take a trip to England. On the motion of Councillor Barr, seconded by Councillor Maffey, a resolution appreciative of Councillor Stackhouse's services was placed upon the minutes. Accounts for £203 6s 3d were passed for payment. The Sumner Burgesses' Association wrote, supporting the Council's efforts to have the Sumner tramway time - table improved, and asking that representations should be made to the Tramway Board with a view to liaving facilities provided for the sale of residents' and other concession tickets at all tramway terminii. It was decided to make; representations to the Tramway Board, and also to offer to pay £3 ]os per lamp for the installation of two electric lights on the tram-line near Sumner at dangerous corners. Councillors Barr and Denham were appointed the Council's delegates to the Municipal Associations' Conference, and the Mayor and Councillors Gill, Barr, Denham and Wood were appointed a committee to prepare remits for the conference. The Works Committee recommended that necessary repairs to the main road should be carried out: that a 9in pipe drain should be laid in Augusta Street, to connect with ' the side channel .across the head of State Street, that 6in pipe drains should be laid in Stoke Street to connect with side channels at the intersections of Bury and Dryden Streets; that the work of channelling in Beach Street should be abandoned ; that the kerbing and channelling of Head Street should be put iji band on the completion of Kardwick Street; and that a pound for pound subsidy up to £ls, should be voted to the Clifton residents to protect and improve the banks and cuttings on the Clifton roads, by planting suitable plants and shrubs.
