CARDINAL MORAN.

AN ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME. [Per Prbss Association.] AUCKLAND, February 17. Cardinal Moran arrived from Sydney by the Manuka early on Sunday evening, and was welcomed by local clerics of tho Roman Catholic Church and an immense orowd. He was escorted by a procession of carriages to tho residence of Bishop Lenihan. The scene m town was one of intense enthusiasm. Tho cardinal's carriage was rather pushed along than pulled by the horses. _ On arrival at the bishop's palace. Bishop Lenihan made a speech of welcome. Cardinal' Moran thanked the people of Auckland for the very enthusiastic welcome extended to him. Such a reception could not do other than cement the union which from the earliest days had welded together the great diocese of Sydney and the diocese of Auckland. Cardinal Moran visited St Patrick's Cathedral and several other Roman Catholic institutions to-day. This evening he opened the St Patrick's Grand Dominion Festival, which is being held in the Royal Albert Hall, in aid of tho building fund of St Patrick's Cathedral. In the course of his remarks Cardinal Moran expressed his pleasure at the great changes that had taken place in religious and social matters in New Zealand since his previous visit, and he specially referred to the high distinction of the title of "dominion " which had recently been conferred upon this country. The Cardinal will leave for Rotorua to-morrow morning.
