To-day the Maori will arrive from Wellington, and in the evening will leave on tho. return trip. The Hawea will arrive to-day from Napier, with a shipment of sheep, and to-night will leave for Wellington. The Wairuna is due to-day from Timaru, to discharge the balance of her cargo of coal. The Kini will leave Greymouth to-day for Lyttelton, with a part cargo of coal. After discharge here she is to go to Timaru, with the balance. The Pukaki will return to Greymouth to-day, and the Rosamond will go to "Westport, where she is to load for Onohunga. The TWeri will probably leave to-morrow for Greymouth, to load timber for Melbourne. The Kaituna should leavo Greymouth on Saturday for Lyttelton.

A new hand will guide the fortunes of the turbine ferry steamer Maori during tho month of March. At the end: of Febiuary Captain Manning, whose name is as closely associated with the Wellington-Lyttelton ferry service as that of the Rotomahana, will commence a month's holiday. Captain Manning is a wellknown figure to the ferry travellers, and many' will miss him, if only for a month. He enjoys the distinction of having 1 commanded three of the Union Company's most speedy vessels—the Rotomahana, Mararoa. and Maori. His old command, the veteran greyhound of the fleet, the Rotomahana, is still plying nobly in thai ferry run, though her performances lack the iustre of former days now that the newi turbine racer can hurry over the distance in nine hours and a half without " doing her best." Captain Newton, at present in command of the Waikare, is to temporarily take) charge of tho Maori during her regular commander's absence.

After an absence of over eighteen months the little steamer Putiki yesterday made a reappearance in Lyttelton. The vessel brings to port a cargo of lumber, and in expeeled to sail on Wednesday for 'Wellington, Wanganui and Greymouth. Captain Dewhurst- is in command of the vessel.

From February t> and. February 15, inclusive, vessels representing 80,625 tons arrived at Lyttelton, and the jrross tonnage of tho departures was 34,471 tons. THe figures for tho previous week were 66,998 tons and 57,871 tons respectively. The greatest tonnaga of arrivals on one day wa3 on Sunday, Febru-. ary 9, 21,257 fops," the Corinthic and the Rippmgham Grange being considerable factors. On Saturday the departures took 31,033 ions of shipping from the port, tho highest figure during the week.- Thirty-six vessels arrived and forty-one sailed. The sailing craft arriving totalled 312 tons, and those departing C9O tons. The figures, of course, exclude the small vessels that ply in the harbour or to the Bays. The agents of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company have been informed that the lonic arrived at Plymouth on Friday morning. The Marjorie Craig, barque, eleven days out from the Bluff to Hokianga, arrived in Lyttelton last evening, wind bound. She will probably sail as soon as the wind blows from a favourable quarter.
