CHRTSTOHUROH. Wednesday July 23. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) Drunkenness. One first offender was fined 5s and_ costs, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Theft. William Woolley, aged twenty-three' years, pleaded guilty to a charge of having stolen, a suit of clothes and a silver watch-chain, valued at £4 16s, the property of John Haggle, a cabman. Detective Bishop stated that the theft took place over a year ago, but the accused was only arrested last week. Ho had previously served sentences for theft. The accused was sentenced to sir. months' imprisonment, with hard' labour. Refusal to Quit.—-Frank Rogatslci, for having refused to quit the licensed premises of the Empire Hotel, was fined 10s and costs. Procuring Liquor.—William Richard Searle was fined 10s and costs for having procured liquor during the currency of a prohibition order.—William Justin Cunningham, for a second conviction for a similar offence, was fined 40s and costs, in default one month's imprisonment, the Magistrate remarking that he intended to stop the continued breaohes of prohibition, if not by reasonable means, then by unreasonable methods. An application by th© accused for time in which to find the money was refused. Affiliation.—A complaint against James Levi Hiekenbottotm (Mr Donnelly) was dismissed without prejudice. Mr Hall appeared for the complainant. Maintenance. Robert S. Shackel (Mr Donnelly) was ordered to contribute 10s a week towards the support of his wife. Mr Hunt appeared for the complainant.
