The crew of the Italian barque Avantiaavoia were hoisting the anchor when the capstan awersed owing to a pawl failing to act. Six men were knocked down, and others were struck by flying capstan bars. Four were badly injured.

It has been ascertained that the woman who sustained injuries in the tramway accident at St Albans, on Wedmes>day, ia Mrs Weeks, of 41, Leeds Street. Linwood. Inquiries at tflio Hospital last night elicited tho information that ine woman was still unconscious. During the afternoon her condition seemed to improve, but towards evening she relapsed, and is now in a critical condition.

A young man named John Fitzgerald, of Tinwald, met with a serious accident on Wednesday evening. He was employed cutting timber by traction engine, when a largo piece of wood struck him with considerable force across the face, completely smashing his nose. Ho was taken to a private hospital for treatment.
