THE UNEMPLOYED.
TO THIS BDITOB. Sir, I thoroughly agree with tho remarks of your correspondent, W. H. Stevens, on the unemployed question To my mind our go-called Liberal Labour Government is, by its immigration policy, only working in tho interests of the capitalists and employers of " God's Own Country." Why should not something be done to find ©mplovment for our native-horn, instead of by misleading advertisements encouraging hordes of immigrants from the Old Country, tho majority of whom aro not adapted to New Zealand's conditions, are consequently willing to work at lower wages, cut, out the deserving New Zcalander and swell the ranks of tho unemployed. _ Again, this cry for increased population is stimulating a lot of our yoning men to rush into matrimony without sufficient prospects and often when not in a position to keep a woman comfortably, with the result they soon have a swarm of halffed, half-clothed children, who very often have to become a burden on tho State. It is all very well > for a certain class of individuals in snug Government billets to make sneering references at the unemployed. In order, however, to seriously impress our somewhat apatlhefcio Government, I would suggest that a demonstration bo held in the Square, the members afterwards to form into lino and march through the leading thoroughfares.—l am, etc., ONE OF THE UNEMPLOYED.
