WORK AND WAGES.

THE WELSH MINERS. United Press Association—Bt Eloelti<j Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Mav 29. The Conciliation Board, Lord St Aldwyn presiding, has granted the Welsh miners' demand for an advance of 11 i per cent in wages. AUCKLAND EMPLOYERS' ASSOCIATION. [Pes Pbess Association.] AUCKLAND, May 30. A well-attended meeting of tho members of the Auckland Provincial Employers' Association discussed _ recent rulings and awards of the Arbitration Court. Disappointment was freely expressed at the attitude of the present Court in having disregarded the judgments and rulings of previous Courts, especially so in regard to" the enforcement of the principle of the payment of weekly wages in cases where only part of the services had been rendered, and wherein the award provides liberally for overtime. The following resolution was unanimously adopted—" That this meeting expresses its regret that tho Arbitration Court in sonie recent decisions has ignored previous well-estab-lished - precedents, in that at Westport it decided to hear a case for breach of award which was not placed before it in proper form; that at Gisborne, at tho instance of the Painters' Union, it fined an employer for breach o.f award in a case previously settled by the Labour Department; that in connection with the felt hatters' award at Dunedin and the typographical award at Wellington, it gave interpretations involving weekly employment in these industries as against the established _ custom of payment only for actual-time worked; that the matter be referred te the Advisory Board of the New Zealand Employers' Federation for its careful consideration."
