Miss Eileen Ward, daughter of the Premier, was presented on Friday with the diploma of Associate in Music, by his Excellency Lord Plunket, vicepresident of Trinity College. bliss Ward is the first New Zealand lady student who has gained this honour. A cable message has been received from England stating that Mr St John Spackman, eldest son of the late Mr W. H. Spackman, has been killed by an accident while playing polo. H© was twenty-five years of age, and held a lieutenant’s commission in the Royal Engineers. Messrs A. L. D. Fraser, G. Witty, C. Lewis, T. Mackenzie, D. Buddo and F. R. Mr Georgo Gray, controller of Money Orders and Savings Banka, is about to retire from hie post on pension, which will take effect on April 1, 1907. Mr Gray, who is .a. brother of the secretary of the Post and Telegraph Office, was born at Aberdeen in 1846, came to New Zealand at eix years of age. and lias resided hero over since, which makes him a colonist of fifty-four years’

Monro was a passenger for Wellington by 'the s.s. Tarawera on Saturday night. The Rev W. Grant, with Mrs Grant and family, left for Gisborne by the s.s. Tarawera on Saturday night. The Hon J. Carroll left for Wellington by the s.s.’Mararoa on Saturday evening. Sir George Clifford, Mr Justice Cooper, the Hon. O. Louisson, M.L.0., and Mr A. L. D. Fraser, M.H.R., were passengers by the same steamer. Captain Braithwaite, A.D.C.' to his Excellency the Governor, left for Wellington by the e.s. Tarawera on Saturday night.
