[Pee Press Association.] NAPIER, October 13. At the inquest touching tbs death of J. F. Gloy, the following verdict was returned:—“That deceased committed suicide by walking into the river while suffering from temporary insanity, due to mental depression.” , WELLINGTON, October 13. Herbert .Garment", a jockey, who was injured by a fall at the Otaki races on Wednesday last, is still unconscious. A single man named Patrick Delaney died in a cell at the Petono police station. Deceased was arrested by Constable Tonkin about 7.30 last evening, on a charge of drunkenness. The constable visited him regularly, until 3.16 this morning, when ho appeared rational, and was able to converse freely. He was next visited at foiu o’clock, and was found to be dead. Deceased was a prohibited man, a labourer by ooovlpatkm. WELLINGTON, October 14. An inquest was held at Petono yesterday afternoon, on the body of Patrick Delaney, found dead in the police, cells that morning. Deceased was a labourer living at Lower Hutt. a single man. The evidence showed that there was a prohibition order against deceased, who was arrested on .Friday evening for drunkenness. During the night he asked for whisky, but. m accordance with the regulations, tins was refused. About an hour and a halt later he was found dead. An autopsy showed that death was duo to syncope, the heart being diseased, A verdict was returned accordingly.

On Saturday Mr J. Buckley, carting contractor, Rangiora, had the the misfortune to get one of his dray horses killed. It was being , used _in carting eoil from the roadside in Ashley Street ho Mr J. Rowe’s brick yards, and in backing the dray to tip a load into a disused clay pitj the vehicle went over the side, dragging the horse into the pit and breaking its back. A serious accident happened at Port Levy on Friday, when a trap containing a number of people was precipitated down a bank upwards of thirty feet high. One of tho oocupante, /Mrs R. Fleming, sustained a bad fracture of the right wrist. She was conveyed to Lyttelton and placed in the Casualty Ward, where she was attended to by Drs" Guthrie and Newell. This is the second accident of the kind that. has happened at the same place within a week. About 11 a.m. yesterday the sailingboat Belle, well known in Lyttelton as belonging to Mr C. Mapple, was swamped outside the moles off No. t railway shed. She was under sail at the time, and was caught by a sudden gust of the strong nor’-wester which was blowing. Three men were in her, a seaman named Georg© Reeves, and two visitors from Christchurch. All were rescued by a boat promptly sent off from the schooner Eliza Firth, which was, fortunately, anchored in tho stream near the scene of the accident. The boat, which was towing a small dingey, did not sink, and, with the aid of the schooner’s crew, was righted and cleared of water. She was then rowed back to her moorings/ . Tho signal for a capsize, a red ensign, was hoisted at the signal station, and several boats put out to the rescue. The tug Lyttelton also wont out. The proximity of the Eliza Firth to the scene of the accident, however, rendered their services unnecessary.

A boy named Eric Wyatt; who lives at New Brighton, was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital yesterday morning. suffering from concussion of/ the brain. It is stated that he was playing near a horse in the yard, but became entangled in the tether, and was thrown against a post. He is in a dangerous condition.
