The annual fixture between a Canterbury cloven and. fifteen colts took place yesterday at Hagley park. The colts were given first advantage of an excellent wicket, and put up the good score of 257. R. Ridley was top scorer with a well-played 55, while Pattrick, Fraser, Norman, North and Gray also hatted well for their runs. Frankish was the most successful bowler for the eleven, whose fielding was not ns good as it should have been. On going in to bat, Bishop was immediately dismissed, but Dakin and Whitta made a short stand. Four wickets were down for 64 when Orchard and Ollivior became associated, and took the total to 125; when Ollivier was dismissed for a carefully-compiled 29. Orchard left immediately afterwards, having made 47 by vigorous batting. Of the hitter players, Frankish was the only one to trouble the bowlers, and the innings closed for 159. A maten was commenced at Hagley Park yesterday between teams of Saturday Second Grad-e and Thursday First Grade players, but time ran out before each side could complete an innings. The Saturday representatives won the toss, and on a good wicket they made 253 (Atkinson 41, Weston 38, Hart 33, M’Leod 23, Pritchard 21, Day 18, Saxton 16, Horner 14, Gasson 14, Crawshaw 12 and Kinvig 11). Thomas took most wickets for the Thursday men, who occupied most of the afternoon in making 345 and winning by 89 runs. Mahar made 127 and retired, Thomas compiled 124, Page 58 and Petrie 12. Kinvig, Crawshaw and M’Leod divided the wickets. Second Grade. Thursday and Third Grade Saturday teams also tried conclusions at Hagley Park. The Saturday players wont in first and mads 170 (W. Carter notout 48, Lavery 25, Wilson 24, Mann 23, Brcokor 11 and Tennant 10). King got the best howling average, and • Blaokmore and Barrington divided the wickets with him. The Thursday team made 157 (Blaokmore 64, Barrington 31, Booker 29 and Butler 13). Brinsden ancl Tennant divided the bowling^honours for Thursday, who at of time had lost seven wickets for 227 (Lavery 44 not out, Mann 72, Vv ikon 34, Brooker 25; Tennant 18, and Brinsden 12 nob cut). Blaokmore and Carrington again divided the wickets for the Thursday team, which was beaten on the first innings.
