LAND SETTLEMENT.
[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, December 18, Mr Mackenzie, Crown Lands Commissioner, returned to Auckland on Sunday after attending a meeting of the Lands Purchase Board held under the Lands for Settlements Act in Wellington. The proposed purchases of several large blocks in the Waikato, Whakatano and Te Awamutu district®, were considered, and the matter of workers’ dwellings at Ellerelie was discussed, and certain recommendations were mad® by the Board in respect to these matters. These recommendations have to be considered by the Cabinet. Applications for sections in the Selwyn settlement (southern' portion) were received at the Crown Lands Office today, and the applications forwarded covered eighteen of the farms out or twenty-one offered, representing an area of 7493 acres. Only one- small grazing run, so far, has been applied for, namely 39, containing 3823 acres.
