THE LICENSING POLL.

TO TE3 » Sir, —The final results in many of the polls arc a source of mystery to myself and many readers of your valuable paper. Take the option poll at Bruce for a sample. The figures in to-day’s “'Times” (Thursday, December 14) are a® follows :—Continuance 1012, Reduction 2000, No-license 2419. According to the report, No-license is lost by five votes, and no proposal is carried. _ I always understood that a bare majority vote carried Reduction. There are many other electorates where both the Reduction and No-lioense figures wo in a vast majority over Continuance. Would you kindly give your numerous readers a correct solution of the figures as a guide and an explanation of the, to me, mysterious words, “ No Proposal carried”? There are three proposals only submitted to the people, viz,, Continuance, Reduction and No-license, and if none of these is carried how can Continuance be carried ? Ought not a fresh poll to bo taken until something definite is carried? .It seems absurd that 4000 odd voters vote for nothing, or their votes count for nothing. Hoping that either the Reduction issue will be eliminated or that the majority for No-license will be reduced to two-fiftba or three-fourths, so that the people’s express wish will be put into practice.— I am, etc., IGNORAMUS.
