ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

A young man named Donald M’Kay met with a rather serious accident -at Hunmui on Monday. It appears ho was ridding in company with two horsemen, When one of the horses suddenly lashed out at him, inflicting severe gash, below the knee. Ke was comveyed home and attended to by Dr Baldwin, who stitched the wound, and the patient is now,, progressing satisfactorily. A dray, drawn hy two horses, got in tho ’way of the four o’clock tram from Christchurch yesterday afternoon on the Heathcote Bridge. The engine slowed down to pass the dray, but lust as it was drawing up to the vehicle the leader of the team turned inside the rails, pulling the shatter down. The engine was pulled up, but in the meantime the driver of the dray had fallen between the horses. The shatter trampled on one of the driver’s legs, and the man was considerably bruised, but did not appear to be seriously injured. Ho refused to go to the Hospital, and was taken home in the dray. On Tuesday afternoon, Mr W. Huston jun., of Ashburton, was thrown out of his trap near Winslow, and the wheel of the vehicle passing over him, throe of his ribs were fractured.
