The brigands first demanded a ransom of £40,000 and then £20,000 for th® release of Captain Growther and Lieutenant Hutton, but finally accepted ten rifles and 10,000 cartridges. Mr Gerard A. Lowthor, British Minister, has demanded the punishment of th© kidnappers.
