MR HARRIS AND THE WOMEN WORKERS.

TO THE EDITOR. ' ‘ Sir, —Referring to a letter appearing in yonr issue of Friday last, signed by F., Cole, President of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, , I • beg to point out that after the deputation of ladies representing the Women’s Christian 1 Temperance Uiiion had waited on the Board and withdrawn I objected to the Board opening up' a question that had already been dealt with. Among other remarks I took exception to certain remarks made in Christchurch by a lady on the public platform. “ regarding illegitimacy.” I strongly denounced her, and also a number of ladies that had been present at that, meeting and shown their approval of the sentiments expressed by applauding her during her address. Seeing that the Women’s Christian Temperance Union does not sympathise, but strongly disapproves of the objectionable expression referred to, they will at once see my remarks did not apply to them. I certainly decline to apologise for an offence I have not yet committed. —I am, etc. SIDNEY HARRIS. ... Little River, October 21, 1905.
