The total quantities of wheat- and flour afloat for the United Kingdom are 2,845,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,705,000 quarters. The shipments • from Atlantic ports were 8000 quarters, and from Pacific ports 50,000 quarters. At the tallow auctions 1551 casks were offered, and 76 (sic) sold, at 6d decline. MELBOURNE, October 20. Tallow—Tfie demand is dull and quotations are ruling 'from 10s to 15s per ton lower. Hides—Tho demand l is brisk. Prices are unchanged. The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company, Limited, has received the following cable from its London office: Frozen meat market—Owing to a reduction in the market price of Argentine mutton, New Zealand mutton has declined in value. There is also a fall in the values of New Zealand lamb and beef. 'To-day's quotations are : Canterbury mutton Napier Wellington and North Island mutton 3£d. Lamb: Firsb quality 5Ad, second quality s|-d. Beef:Hind quarters fore-quar-ters 2|d. Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cable message from their London office, dated October 19:—Since our last telegram, tallow in.general is nominally lower by 6d to 9d per cwt. Tire market is very dull, with hardly any business doing.
