Pere Trust Lands, I saw Mr Carroll tills morning on the subject, when the Native Minister said lie could not at the present stage discuss the constitution- of the Board. The whole matter was under consideration, and it would he improper to say anything at the -present stage. It is understood, however, that the alleged delay in the appointments to the Board is no disadvantage, as time is required to look into the affairs of the Trust. Nothing could have been done earlier. Recommendations for appointments to the Board have "been received from all over the colony, and a number of highly eligible gentlemen are available. In mailing a selection, which will he done in the course of two weeks, the Government will consult the wishes and interests of the Native owners, and will appoint men who can be trusted to conserve the public interests as well as those of the Maoris.
